Summary
A novel approach to heritage education demonstrates how student-led fieldwork and didactic strategies can deepen the understanding and dissemination of historical and cultural heritage. The study, conducted with students from UFMA’s Human Sciences Licenciatura program, employed three case studies—focusing on Pinheiro, São Luís’ historic center, and Alcântara’s Quilombola community—to create 'living laboratories' that supported memory and storytelling. By involving students in planning, field research, and result dissemination, the project successfully enhanced heritage knowledge and engagement across diverse regions of Baixada Maranhense and Reentrâncias Maranhenses.
