Summary

Research by L. R. Kyzlasov in the Saryarka region of Northern Kazakhstan has shed light on the stone statues and structures of Central Kazakhstan, revealing their cultural and chronological significance spanning multiple periods, including deer stones, Saka, Ancient Turkic, and Qipchag eras. His 1948 fieldwork documented over ten statues and related constructions in the Kazakh Uplands, while his 1951 analysis compared these sites with others globally, attempting to define their origins. Though his records were limited by the standards of his time, they remain valuable as some site locations are now unknown. Additional insights were gleaned from Kyzlasov's unpublished field journal and sketchbook, which was later published in 2017.
