Summary
Over the past 25 years, conservation and restoration efforts at the Jerónimos Monastery have set new benchmarks for interdisciplinary and sustainable monument management. Two major interventions—on the Cloister (1998–2002) and Church vaults (2012–2026)—highlighted innovative methodological and technical approaches, recognized internationally. The study evaluates these efforts against the principles of the Venice Charter (1964), emphasizing the need for integrated, long-term strategies that prioritize interdisciplinary collaboration. By analyzing documentation, in situ observations, and expert insights, this research reflects on evolving trends in heritage conservation, advocating for a balanced approach that preserves historical integrity while addressing modern challenges.
