Summary

A significant reduction in energy consumption—up to 40% for building envelopes and 20% for plant systems—can be achieved through cost-effective retrofitting of school buildings in Rome, benefiting both environmental sustainability and indoor comfort. The study developed guidelines applicable to nearly all school buildings by analyzing representative case studies, focusing on optimizing building performance while preserving historic urban contexts. These interventions not only reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also serve as educational tools for raising awareness among students about energy efficiency and sustainable practices.
