Summary
A groundbreaking analysis of the muqarnas dome in the Sala de los Reyes at the Alhambra reveals significant deformations, providing critical insights for conservation efforts. This study is the first to digitally document nearly 2,000 muqarnas pieces using 3D laser scanning and historical image analysis, uncovering structural alterations since the 16th century. The research combines unpublished drawings, photographs, and modern graphic techniques to assess the current state of these fragile architectural elements, which are a hallmark of Nasrid architecture. These findings aim to enhance heritage dissemination and inform preservation strategies for this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
