Summary
During the second half of the 18th century, labor practices in Guanajuato's mines were shaped by state-led mining modernization, which imposed forced labor and stringent regulations. This study reveals that despite the diversity of trades among workers, their development was constrained by a complex system of labor control involving both state intervention and corporate influence. The findings highlight how these measures limited workforce growth in one of the era's most advanced industrial sectors.
