Summary

A study of pollen and non-pollen palynomorph (NPP) depositional patterns in Kaziranga National Park, India, reveals distinct vegetation types and herbivore impacts. Canonical correspondence analysis identified five significantly different vegetation types based on pollen data, while NPPs showed relatively consistent patterns across habitats. Notably, coprophilous fungal spores were most abundant in openland areas, indicating higher herbivore density. Swamp samples reflected the overall composition of all vegetation types in the park. This research provides a modern analog for paleoecological and paleoherbivory studies, offering valuable insights into the long-term association between wildlife and vegetation dynamics in UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
