Summary

A novel integrated modelling approach for seismic assessment of complex unreinforced masonry (URM) buildings, exemplified by the Podestà Palace in Mantua, Italy, demonstrates how combining Structural Element Models, Macro-Block Models, and Finite Element Models can provide a comprehensive understanding of seismic behavior. This method allows for the estimation of dynamic interactions among structural units while enabling detailed analysis of critical areas, such as vaults prone to local mechanisms. The findings highlight that in-plane stiffening of vaults could be an effective strengthening solution to improve seismic action redistribution in such intricate structures. This approach bridges computational efficiency and accuracy, offering a rational basis for conservation strategies at UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
