Summary

A novel methodology adapted from London's public transport accessibility framework reveals significant spatial disparities in Ahmedabad, India’s public transport network. This approach integrates GIS mapping with key metrics—average walk speed, distances to stops, and peak-hour route frequencies—to generate Public Transport Accessibility Levels (PTAL). Findings highlight critical gaps that could inform urban planning, such as land-use integration, transit-oriented zoning, and parking policies. The study demonstrates how PTAL mapping can serve as a practical tool for prioritizing public transport investments and reducing traffic congestion in historic cities like Ahmedabad.
