Summary

A study of the Okavango Delta reveals that river channel migration in this meandering distributive fluvial system is primarily asymmetric, with distinct patterns emerging across three zones: axial, median, and distal. These zones exhibit varying sinuosity indices, curvature, along-current deflection angles, and expansion coefficients due to differences in slope, climate, and vegetation. Using satellite imagery from Google Earth and the Alaska Satellite Facility (ASF), researchers analyzed these geomorphic elements to propose a sedimentary facies model for single-source distributive fluvial systems. This work not only advances understanding of river dynamics but also offers theoretical guidance for predicting future channel behavior and studying underground reservoir morphology.
