Summary

Archaeological excavations at 5 Ha-Degel Street in the Muslim Quarter of Jerusalem's Old City revealed significant pottery and stone artifacts, shedding light on the area's historical layers. Conducted in May 2017 by the Israel Antiquities Authority with Franciscan Custodia de Terra Sancta funding, the trial excavation uncovered remnants dating back to different periods, providing insights into the region's past. The study employed advanced techniques such as photogrammetry and detailed pottery analysis, led by I. Taxel, with contributions from a multidisciplinary team of experts in pottery, glass, metallurgy, numismatics, and photography. These findings enrich our understanding of Jerusalem's complex history and its cultural evolution.
