Summary
A comprehensive inventory of karst caves in the Schisto-calcaire subgroup formations of Mbanza-Ngungu, Kimpese, and Songololo (Kongo Central, DRC) reveals significant gaps in prior research. This study addresses long-standing confusion by compiling bibliographic data, relocating cave sites using GIS when possible, and conducting field surveys from 2019 to 2022 to verify locations. The findings highlight the critical role of these caves as geologic water reservoirs, archaeological sites, and biodiversity hotspots while emphasizing their potential for cave-ins. This work provides a foundational dataset for future interdisciplinary research in geology, archaeology, and biology.
