Summary
A comprehensive thematic map of the natural environments surrounding two major glaciers, Perito Moreno and Upsala, within Los Glaciares National Parkwas successfully generated using integrated optical and radar satellite data. The study leveraged polarimetric RADARSAT-2 imagery alongside Landsat 5 TM optical data to identify, characterize, and describe physiognomic natural forest units, contributing valuable insights into the ecological and geographical dynamics of this critical Patagonian landscape. Digital processing and supervised classification techniques were employed to merge radar and optical datasets, with all thematic cartography integrated into a Geographic Information System (GIS) for spatial analysis.
