Summary
Excavations at the protohistoric necropolis of Labruguière, part of the UNESCO-listed Causses and Cévennes Mediterranean agro-pastoral landscape, revealed 1030 cremation graves with distinct burial assemblages. Analysis of these graves, spanning 925–450 BCE, uncovered evidence of long-distance exchanges and cultural interactions. Specific grave goods, including likely imported items, provided insights into funerary practices and trade or cultural ties between the community and neighboring regions in western Languedoc and southwestern France. The study highlights how material culture can illuminate complex socio-economic and cultural dynamics within ancient Mediterranean landscapes.
