Summary

The Goldthwait Sea, a late- and post-Glacial marine invasion in the St. Lawrence Estuary and Gulf east of Québec City, submerged approximately 25,000 km² of land, including significant areas along both shores and Anticosti Island. This study identifies three main periods (Goldthwaitian I, II, III) within a 14,000-year timeline of land emergence, though geographical subdivisions remain challenging due to limited well-developed shorelines. Rapid isostatic recovery, occurring at about 75% during the first 3,000 years post-deglaciation, highlights the dynamic nature of this region's geological history.
