Summary
Consumers in Mexico show willingness to pay a premium for agro-ecological products, challenging the notion that such farming is incompatible with market-driven systems. This study, focusing on vegetable production in Xochimilcoreveals that demand for sustainable alternatives depends on socio-economic factors like age, income, and gender, as well as access to product information. Buyers are also open to compensating producers for adopting eco-friendly practices, suggesting a viable market for agro-ecology even in resource-limited regions. The research combines survey data with economic analysis to assess consumer behavior, offering insights that could reshape agricultural sustainability strategies globally.
