Summary
Göbekli Tepe, located near Şanlıurfa, Turkey, is a prehistoric megalithic site featuring at least 20 monumental round structures with T-shaped pillars. A striking discovery from ongoing excavations reveals over 40 animal depictions on these pillars, predominantly featuring mammals such as snakes, foxes, wild boars, and birds like ducks, cranes, and vultures. Additionally, representations of bulls, lions, donkeys, sheep or goats, insects, and spiders have been identified. These findings suggest a rich symbolic or ritualistic significance, potentially offering insights into early human beliefs and cultural practices during the Neolithic period.
