Summary
Global logistical shifts, particularly containerization since the 1970s, have significantly reshaped port cities, yet their impact on urban development remains understudied. This research reveals how these changes have restructured Valparaíso's historic seaport, Chile's most vital Port-City, altering its economic competitiveness and urban dynamics. By combining qualitative fieldwork with quantitative territorial mapping, the study demonstrates that port modernization has not only bolstered regional economic growth but also redefined the city-port relationship, influencing urban development in the Valparaíso region. The findings underscore the need to consider logistical transformations as key drivers of urban restructuring in Latin American port cities.
