Summary
A significant reduction in the total allowable catch (TAC) for rock lobster is recommended for Inaccessible and Gough Islands in the Tristan Group, primarily due to declining catch per unit effort (CPUE) at Inaccessible and a reversal of previous growth trends at Gough. These findings stem from updated models accounting for recent environmental incidents and revised growth rate estimates. To align with an impending transition to a more stable management procedure, the reductions are proposed to be phased in over two years. This approach aims to balance immediate conservation needs with long-term sustainability, with further refinements expected by September 2012.
