Summary
A fragment of a Hemmoor bucket, recovered from the Roman Limes gate at Rainau-Dalkingen during excavations in 1973/74, provides new insights into the chronology and production area of this significant vessel type. The find, notable for its unseparated attachment, belongs to the later form group of Hemmoor buckets, suggesting a dating to the first half of the 3rd century AD. This study marks the first use of primarily Roman Imperial finds to determine the bucket's chronology, offering a more precise timeline than previously possible. While the exact production area remains uncertain—possibly Lower Germany—the research challenges earlier assumptions and lays groundwork for future archaeological studies on this important artifact type.
