Summary
Samarkand, Uzbekistan, once a thriving tourist destination known for its Silk Road heritage and UNESCO-listed cultural landmarks, faces the challenge of rejuvenating its tourism sector post-pandemic. A study identifies several niche tourism markets that could diversify offerings to appeal to international and domestic tourists alike. These include specialized experiences that leverage Samarkand's rich history, architecture, and culture beyond traditional sightseeing. The research involved qualitative interviews with 10 tourist operators to gauge their perspectives on diversification potential and the need for expanded tourism development.
