Summary
A study assessing avian species richness and distribution across four Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) sites in Mindanao, Philippines—Mounts Apo, Kitanglad, Hamiguitan, and Malindang—revealed distinct avian compositions with significant variation in species diversity. Mount Apo exhibited the highest species richness (38 species), endemism (58.33%), and diversity, while Mount Hamiguitan recorded the lowest (20 species). Only Pachycephala philippinensis was common across all sites, with pairwise similarity below 55%, underscoring unique avian assemblages in each ecosystem. The research employed mist netting (857 net days) and point surveys (62 hours) within 1-ha plots to document 65 species from 30 families, highlighting Mindanao's avifaunal diversity and the importance of LTER sites for conservation.
