Summary
A collaborative excavation at the Archaeological Area of Agrigento, focusing on the Temple D, has shed new light on the boundaries and layout of the sacred sanctuary. Through photogrammetric surveys and targeted excavations in three distinct sectors, researchers aimed to define the limits of the temenos—a long-standing question. Two new trenches (saggi 5 and 7) were opened: one near the northeastern access curve to the archaeological site and another in the western area of the temple, revealing an unexplored wall alignment. A third trench (saggio 3) expanded previous investigations within the monumental altar, providing deeper insights into its structure. The study, conducted in partnership with the Valle dei Templi Park, employed advanced methodologies to enhance understanding of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
