World Heritage Site: Lines and Geoglyphs of Nasca and Palpa
Publication Year: 2018
Publication Type: Article
Publication Identifier: WHE10DC97AB90
Summary
A high-resolution drone survey of the Pista geoglyph in Palpa, Peru, has uncovered previously undetected geoglyphs, including depictions of a bird and a guinea pig, alongside other small drawings. This discovery significantly expands our understanding of the Nasca Lines' complexity and construction techniques. The study demonstrates that drones can achieve finer resolution (beyond 35–50 cm) compared to satellite imagery, revealing ground-level details invisible from above. This approach enhances documentation efforts for remote or hazardous sites, offering new insights into ancient geoglyph creation and use.
