Summary

A comprehensive survey of praying mantises in Rwanda has uncovered 41 species, including 28 new records for the country and 20 novel regional discoveries spanning Uganda and Burundi. This represents a significant 155% increase in documented species from Rwanda, highlighting the region's rich but understudied biodiversity. The study employed diverse collecting techniques—such as light traps, sweep netting, and manual searching—to gather 739 specimens (adults and juveniles) across four key sites: Akagera National Park, Nyungwe National Park, Volcanoes National Park, and the Arboretum de Ruhande. High-resolution images of representative species, along with detailed distribution records, were also provided, underscoring the need for further taxonomic research to fully characterize Rwanda's insect fauna.
