Summary

The Okavango Delta, a vital wetland and UNESCO World Heritage Site in northern Botswana, faces significant environmental threats that risk transforming it into a salt pan. This study highlights how divergent stakeholder interests, coupled with climate variability, climate change, and tectonic activities, have progressively degraded the ecosystem's sustainability over recent decades. The research synthesizes field evidence and existing data to underscore the urgent need for accelerated implementation of the Okavango Delta Management Plan (ODMP) to mitigate these threats and preserve the delta's ecological integrity.
