Summary
Archaeological research in the Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site within the Pirineos, reveals a rich diversity of pastoral practices spanning centuries. The study introduces a novel framework for classifying stone structures—such as cabins and enclosures—based on their temporal and functional characteristics, enabling deeper sociohistorical interpretations. Applying this methodology to the Aigüestortes and Estany de Sant Maurici region, the research identifies distinct patterns of land use and human activity in high-altitude landscapes, challenging traditional narratives of seasonal mobility and resource management in the Pyrenees.
