Summary
Research on the Putorana Plateau reveals distinct cryogenic soil types formed from trappean rocks, with their distribution shaped by climate continentality and humidity. Four soil types—gleyic peat cryozems, raw-humus cryozems, gray-humus cryozems, and sorbed-humus cryozems—were identified based on diagnostic horizons like CRg, AO, AY, and CRhs. These soils vary significantly across three climatic sectors: moderately continental humid (dominated by gleyic peat cryozems), continental slightly humid–semihumid (raw-humus cryozems), and sharply continental (gray-humus and sorbed-humus cryozems). The study highlights how lithogeomorphic and geocryological conditions further influence intra-sector soil distribution, while also addressing nomenclature and classification challenges. Conducted in remote areas of Central Siberia, this work provides critical insights into the morphogenetic features and spatial patterns of these poorly studied cryogenic soils.
