Summary

A groundbreaking platform integrating augmented reality (AR) and narrative techniques within an ambient-intelligence environment significantly enhances the visitor experience at cultural sites, particularly museums. This study presents the 'ATANA' research program's evaluation results, demonstrating how such a platform can transform cultural tourism by offering interactive tours that leverage landmarks like those in Ancient Olympia and Athens. The approach, tested at the Kotsanas Museum of Ancient Greek Technology (MAET), allows tourists to explore ancient Greek technological inventions through mobile AR applications, attracting more visitors and benefiting local businesses. Additionally, the methodology supported MAET's participation in an international exhibition by projecting 3D inventions via AR, showcasing its potential for broader cultural engagement.
