Summary

Urban forest planning can significantly enhance climate resilience and mitigate climate change impacts, particularly when tailored to socioeconomic factors. A study of four residential areas in Santo Domingo revealed that Gazcue exhibited the highest urban forest sustainability index, driven by job stability, medium-high income, and property ownership. The research, based on 147 interviews and ecosystem service measurements from 2016–2019, highlighted the importance of integrating tree species selection, spatial design, and legal frameworks into urban planning to foster territorial sustainability. These findings underscore the need for strategic urban forest management that balances economic value with environmental benefits, offering a model for other cities facing climate challenges.
