Summary
A groundbreaking study establishes the Unkurtash gold deposit in Kyrgyzstan's Tien Shan as an intrusion-related system, resolving long-standing ambiguity about its genetic link to magmatism. Using Re-Os, U-Pb, and 40Ar/39Ar dating alongside sulfur and lead isotope analysis, researchers confirmed that gold mineralization (307 Ma) occurred synchronously with the Andagul granodiorite intrusion (305 Ma). This challenges traditional classifications of Tien Shan deposits and supports a broader intrusion-related model for the region's lode gold systems. The findings suggest the Andagul granodiorite was the primary source of metals and sulfur, with implications for exploring similar deposits in the Central Asian orogenic belt.
