Summary
Artistic-cultural occupations in São Luís's historic center emerge as powerful tools for democratizing cultural heritage, reshaping public spaces and fostering inclusive urban dynamics. This study highlights their potential to bridge gaps between cultural policies and heritage preservation, demonstrating how these initiatives contribute significantly to the revitalization of the UNESCO-listed Historic Centre of São Luís. Through an exploratory and descriptive analysis of four active occupations, researchers identified key actions that benefit both local communities and public cultural policies. The findings underscore the need for further research on urban rights and spatial reconfiguration, suggesting that such occupations serve as catalysts for broader cultural democratization.
