Summary

A study analyzing temporal variations in vegetation indices, including the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), reveals significant differences in environmental protection effectiveness among five conservation units in Brazil's Pantanal. The Taiamã Ecological Station, Pantanal Matogrossense National Park, and Encontro das Águas State Park exhibited high NDVI values, indicating strong environmental protection, despite occasional fire hotspots. In contrast, the Guirá State Park and Pantanal of Rio Negro State Park showed relatively low NDVI values, with the latter experiencing 36 fire hotspots in 2007, highlighting the need for enhanced monitoring and management. This research underscores the potential of geotechnology as a crucial tool for supporting environmental management actions in these protected areas.
