Summary
Research reveals that the height of columns, alongside other factors, significantly influences their lateral load capacity in Mimar Sinan's Ottoman mosques. The study analyzed column forms from six notable mosques—Sinan Pasha, Kılıç Ali Pasha, Üsküdar Mihrimah Sultan, Selimiye, Şehzade, and Süleymaniye—measuring their geometric dimensions to assess vertical and lateral load capacities. Using both classical stress equations and the Abaqus simulation program, findings confirmed that height plays a crucial role in determining stability under horizontal loads, reinforcing the importance of structural design in historic architecture.
