Summary
Railways and rail stations, including UNESCO-listed Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (formerly Victoria Terminus), have historically driven urban development. A photographic study revealed distinct 'train culture' activities at the terminus, contributing to its vibrancy as a Mumbai urban center. The research compares this historic station with a proposed elevated railway station in the International Business and Finance Center (IFBC) to explore their potential as catalysts for urban growth. Findings highlight that both stations—Victoria Terminus with its historical significance and the contemporary IFBC Interchange—can sustain thriving urban areas by preserving train culture while addressing modern urban challenges.
