Summary

A cluster analysis of Ibiza residents reveals significant heterogeneity in attitudes towards tourism, with five distinct groups identified: enthusiastic supporters, interested supporters, supporters with nuanced opinions, neutrals, and critics. The most prominent groups are the supporters with nuanced opinions (23.0%)—often referred to as 'realists'—and the critics (23.4%), who are concerned about negative impacts. This study highlights the importance of recognizing diverse societal perspectives in managing tourist destinations, particularly in mature and highly crowded locations like Ibiza. The research used a descending hierarchical cluster analysis on a sample of 418 residents to map these attitudes, providing valuable insights for sustainable tourism planning.
