Summary
Aesthetic experiences in mosque architecture are deeply influenced by traditional Islamic spatial language, as revealed by a comparative study of the Selimiye Mosque and the Sancaklar Mosque. Despite openness to contemporary design concepts, survey participants overwhelmingly preferred the Selimiye Mosque—a masterpiece of Ottoman style—due to its alignment with familiar religious aesthetics. The research employed an online questionnaire to assess perceptual differences in aesthetic experience between traditional and modern mosque designs, highlighting the enduring significance of historical and cultural context in shaping spatial atmosphere perceptions.
