Summary

Tourism development in Botswana's Okavango Delta has transformed traditional basket weaving from a domestic utilitarian practice into a highly sought-after commodity, driven by market demands. While this shift reflects the broader trend of cultural tourism, it poses challenges for preserving the cultural significance and authenticity of basketry. The study, conducted through semi-structured and in-depth interviews with local communities, used descriptive statistics and thematic analysis to reveal how economic pressures from tourism are reshaping traditional practices. Balancing market-driven changes with the preservation of cultural heritage emerges as a critical concern for sustainable development in the region.
