Summary

Arid deltas worldwide, including those of the Colorado, Indus, Nile, and Tigris-Euphrates rivers, are rapidly shrinking due to water diversion, salinization, subsidence, and climate change. Research highlights that re-establishing natural water flows—such as seasonal flooding—can mitigate ecological decline, as seen in the Colorado River delta. However, sustained recovery requires stakeholder collaboration and active management, compounded by political instability and population growth. The study underscores the urgent need for integrated strategies to restore these critical ecosystems before irreversible damage occurs.
