Summary

Archaeological investigations at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Aquileia reveal significant commercial spaces dating back to Late Antiquity, providing new insights into the diachronic transformation of urban markets. The study, conducted by the University of Verona since 2018 in the southeastern sector of Aquileia, builds on earlier 20th-century excavations that had already identified commercial areas. This research contributes to a broader understanding of how market spaces evolved over time in Roman cities, particularly along the Adriatic coast.
