Summary

A novel diagnostic approach combining digital imaging techniques—Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI) and Ultraviolet Fluorescence (UVF)—has been developed to assess the conservation status of Koguryo Tomb murals. This method enables precise visualization of surface texture differences and objective documentation of color layer damage in stone mural specimens, addressing limitations in traditional assessment techniques. The study demonstrated that these technologies can effectively replicate and analyze physical deterioration caused by moisture exposure, providing a more accurate and reliable basis for conservation efforts. This advancement is crucial for preserving the cultural and historical significance of Koguryo Tomb murals, which are vulnerable to both natural and human-induced degradation.
