Summary
A rare Nilotic landscape painting, dating to the 1st century CE, has been uncovered in Mérida, Spain, offering new insights into the spread of this decorative theme in Hispania. The mural fragment, discovered during 2021 excavations at a residential building linked to a late imperial public bath complex, provides evidence of the influence of Italian artistic models on local iconography. Despite its partial preservation, the painting's surviving elements clearly depict a Nilotic scene, contributing to our understanding of cultural exchange and artistic development in ancient Augusta Emerita.
