Summary
A localized canal development model for Hangzhou's Grand Canal section is proposed, integrating urban regeneration with cultural heritage preservation. The study identifies the 'Ten Canal Scenes' (TCS), which encapsulate the canal's historical, spatial, artistic, and spiritual significance while reflecting Hangzhou's unique characteristics. Using archival analysis, spatial statistics like average nearest neighbor (ANN) and nuclear density analysis, and clustering techniques, researchers mapped cultural landscape features and evaluated their conservation and utilization value. The model aims to enhance the comprehensive values of these titled landscapes, addressing socio-economic and cultural dimensions while reconciling heritage preservation with urban development. This approach offers a reference for balancing regeneration and heritage in other UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
