Summary
Mexican cinema from the 1960s and 1970s served as a visual record of Guadalajara's urban transformation, capturing its modern identity while inadvertently documenting the erosion of colonial heritage. Eight films, including Guadalajara en verano (1964) and Un sueño de amor (1972), depicted the city’s new landmarks under the guise of tourism promotion, revealing how industrial filmmaking reflected—and sometimes obscured—architectural changes driven by Fordist economic models. The study highlights how these films, though commercially motivated, offer a unique lens to analyze urban development and heritage loss in post-war Guadalajara.
