Summary
A novel application of the Multichannel Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW) method at Pavagadh Hill, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, reveals critical insights into subsurface rock mass conditions and engineering properties. The study demonstrates that MASW can effectively characterize shear-wave velocity (Vs) profiles across varying elevations, providing a non-destructive alternative to traditional borehole-based seismic testing. Key findings include the evaluation of subsurface stiffness, rock mass deformation modulus (Em), Geological Strength Index (GSI), uniaxial compressive strength (UCS), and bearing capacity, which are essential for safe foundation design, slope stability assessment, and infrastructure development. The study also classifies sites based on NEHRP criteria using Vs₃₀ values, offering a robust framework for geotechnical engineering applications in heterogeneous geological settings.
