Summary
A taxonomic and molecular study identifies three new species of the genus Stylosanthes (Leguminosae) endemic to Mexico, expanding the country's botanical diversity. These discoveries—Stylosanthes leticiana, S. rosalindae, and S. gretheriae—are supported by detailed morphological descriptions, distribution maps, and comparative scanning electron microscope (SEM) images of their fruits. Stylosanthes leticiana exhibits a broad distribution in Mexico with affinities to S. humilis, while S. rosalindae is primarily found in the central-southern region, particularly within the UNESCO-listed Tehuacán-Cuicatlán Valley, showing morphological similarities to S. subsericea and S. viscosa. Meanwhile, S. gretheriae occurs in western Mexico and shares traits with S. guianensis. This research contributes critical insights into the biodiversity of Mesoamerica's originary habitat, highlighting the region's ecological significance.
