Summary

Urban heritage conservation faces significant challenges, particularly for rock-cut caves like those in Mumbai, which have been neglected due to population growth and urban expansion. This study highlights the potential of digital technologies as a solution to preserve these ancient sites, including the well-known Elephanta Caves and lesser-known Buddhist and Hindu temples such as Kanheri, Mahakali, Mandapeshwar, and Jogeshwari. By analyzing two case studies, the research demonstrates how advanced tools can mitigate the risks posed by urban encroachment, offering a scalable approach to heritage conservation in densely populated areas.
