Summary
A notable transformation of urban public spaces into dynamic laboratories for contemporary art has been observed, particularly in San Gimignano's historic center. This study highlights how the integration of modern artistic expressions, such as those from the Arte Povera movement, can foster a sense of belonging and critical reflection on urban identity. Commissioned by Giuliano Briganti and Luisa Laureati, the project 'Affinità. Cinque artisti per San Gimignano' (1991) strategically placed sculptures across the city to create a dialogue between medieval heritage and contemporary aesthetics, following Paul Ardenne's conceptual framework of contextual art. These 'infiltraciones' continue to revitalize public spaces, offering an active experience that bridges historical and present-day narratives.
