Summary

A sustainable approach to restoring historic port infrastructure can harmonize economic growth, water management, and cultural identity while accommodating modern urban development. This study demonstrates that such restoration projects, exemplified by an ongoing initiative in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, can address the dual challenges of preserving heritage and ensuring resilience against rapid urban change. By integrating interdisciplinary strategies—balancing sustainability, economic feasibility, and tourism—the project offers a model for water and heritage management in areas undergoing commercial exploitation. The findings suggest that strategic collaboration between developers and government stakeholders can mitigate negative impacts on historic port infrastructure while enhancing human well-being.
