Summary

A new hydrological barrier at Bryggen, Norway's UNESCO World Heritage Site, has significantly improved conditions for preserving organic archaeological remains. The barrier, designed to regulate groundwater levels and flow, reduced groundwater temperatures by up to 2 °C near the redeveloped area. This mitigation measure addresses degradation caused by urban development, ensuring optimal preservation of archaeological deposits while minimizing drainage and subsidence upstream.
